RAK FTZ RECORDS INCREASE IN NEW COMPANY REGISTRATIONS

Ras Al Khaimah Free Trade Zone (RAK FTZ) – one of the fastest-growing and most cost-effective free trade zones in the UAE – today announced a 4% year-on-year increase in new company registrations in the first half of 2012, according to the audited reports by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC).

A total of 1,145 new companies registered with RAK FTZ in H1 2012, a significant increase from the 1,101 companies registered in the first half of 2011. Revenues from the registrations touched AED 123.55 million, a 10.21% increase compared to the AED 112.1 million generated during H1 2011, revealed PwC in the report.

Ras Al Khaimah welcomes the world

RAS AL KHAIMAH, a rising emirate in the north of the UAE, is making a serious push to lure more tourists. The emirate is investing $250 million on tourism infrastructure, including hotels and resorts and hopes to add 10,000 hotel rooms by 2016.

Last year, 835,200 tourists visited the emirate, revenues from the sector grew by Dh400 million ($108 million) as RAK is welcoming the world.

“A major attraction for both investment and visiting Ras Al Khaimah is its affordability,” said Victor Louis, chief operating officer of Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Investment Development Authority, told Khaleej Times during an interview.

Students float clean-up campaign for RAK beach

A group of environmentally conscious students are seeking support from Ras Al Khaimah (RAK) authorities to launch a clean-up campaign on Al Hamra beach in the emirate.

The environmental club of the Mahatma Gandhi University off-campus centre in RAK took an interest in the clean-up initiative after students found a large dead sea turtle washed up on the seashore. The Al Hamra beach stretches for approximately 20km from the RAK Ice Land Water Park to Umm Al Quwain but the students say widespread littering and the sight of animal carcasses has made it a no-go area.

RAK FTZ targets French investors for enhanced trade collaboration

As part of its mandate to boost investments into Ras Al Khaimah, a delegation from Ras Al Khaimah Free Trade Zone (RAK FTZ) - one of the fastest-growing and most cost-effective free trade zones in the UAE - met a number of French investors as well as owners of SMEs and discussed closer business collaboration.

The meetings were held on the sidelines of RAK FTZ's participation at Forum International PACA 2012, held at Palais de la Bourse in Marseille, France, from 3-4 April 2012.
